Wether you want to learn a new skill, or take your skill to the next level.  This hands-on soap making class is for you.

Our cold-process, natural soap-making workshops are fun, vibrant, thorough and not to mention extra- informative. We spend the first half of the workshop covering theory (the science of saponification) and how to formulate your own recipes.

During the hands-on part, you will get to choose your own additives such as clays, teas or herbs and essential oils to add to our recipe that we have created for the workshop.  You will learn everything you need to know to make soap at home, including where to source your ingredients.

We provide everything you need for this 4 to 5 hour workshop, including

  • Soapmaking recipes
  • Ingredients
  • Equipment
  • Protective clothing (goggles, gloves, aprons) and
  • Tea/Coffee/Juice

 

DURING CLASS WE WILL DISCUSS

  • What soap is
  • Different methods of making soap
  • How to formulate your own recipe from scratch
  • Equipment, supplies and ingredients needed
  • Different soapmaking oils
  • A basic recipe

DURING THE HANDS-ON PORTION OF CLASS YOU WILL GET TO:

  • Mix and blend your own soap.
  • Customise your soap with your own  essential oil blends and natural (or synthetic) colourants
  • Enjoy the magic and science of turning oils to soaps.
  • Learn to formulate your own recipe from scratch

YOU WILL TAKE HOME:

  • Knowledge and Confidence to create natural, organic soap from scratch
  • Class Notes (fully informative book on soapmaking), a bonus essential oils booklet and a recipe booklet.
  • All the soap you make

You will make an approx 1.5kg batch of soap, the equivalent of about 10 – 15 bars, from start
to finish – a retail value of R1050!

Cold Process Soapmaking Workshop – Natural Handmade Soap

This is a physical hands-on class that takes place at our studio in Cape Town, during the week.

  • Venue:Olive Handmade Soaps – Unit A3 Spearhead Business Park, Montague Gardens, Montague Drive.
  • Class duration: 10am to 2 or 3pm depending on how many guest (maximum 2) and Q&A session.
    Skill level: No prior experience is needed to join our class.  We will teach you everything beginner to intermediate level – from mixing, choosing colours, scent, making, cutting and curing. If you want to start a business – we will be happy to discuss your questions.
  • Class Size: We host a maximum of 2 guests per allocated day to allow for personal attention
  • What will be provided: All soapmaking equipment, including safety  gear, and ingredients will be provided.   You will take the soap you make and leave behind all the other equipment and gear.  You will be able to buy a soap making kit or raw ingredients at the end of the workshop for you to take home.
    Refreshments: We will offer tea/coffee throughout the course – please feel free to bring your own substantial lunch.
  • You will take home:
    – A soap-making workshop booklet, essential oil blending booklet and a recipe booklet.
    – A batch of handmade soaps that you would have made, with retail value of R1050.
  • What to wear?
    Please wear closed shoes and long sleeve t shirts.  We will provide aprons and safety gear for the day.
  • What to bring?

Please bring a towel and a shoe box to keep your soap insulated and  safe in transit.

*PLEASE NOTE:

  • Once payment has been made you will receive an email from us confirming your booking.   Attendees do not receive a physical ticket.
  • Bookings are not refundable.  If you are unable to attend you are welcome to gift the ticket to a friend. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop at any time in which case we will issue refunds.
  • We do not host workshops for children under 17 years of age
  • Our workshops run from March to July.

You will soon be making your own natural soap at home, or even starting a small business with your new skill.  Do not hesitate to contact us should you need more information.

Off-course you will take home the soap you make on the day (+- 15 bars of soap).

Please bring a towel, and wear a long-sleeve tops and closed shoes.
