LEARN HOW TO MAKE LOTIONS OR CREAMS
Our thorough Lotion & Cream making workshop will teach you how to make emulsified lotions, creams, and body butters using natural and premium ingredients. You can learn how to choose the right oils and butters, emulsifiers, and preservatives. With our 10 year experience in making and selling handmade creams and lotion throughout the world, we will guide you with tips, hints and tricks to achieve a perfect emulsification every single time – wether you are making a hydrating face cream, a light body lotion, a healing foot balm or even moisturising conditioner! You will make 2 to 3 small batches of different scalable formulations during the lotion and cream making workshop.
During this workshop we will discuss
- Differences between hydrous and anyhydrous creams
- Thorough indepth look at ingredients and their specific functions
- Understand the difference between O/W and W/O and decide what is best for your different uses.
- Different phases
- Emulsification
- Preservation
- Storage
DURING THE HANDS-ON PORTION OF CLASS YOU WILL GET TO:
- Mix your oils and other ingredients
- Customise your lotion/cream with your own essential oil blends and natural (or synthetic) colourants
- Enjoy the magic and science of turning oils to soaps.
- Learn to formulate your own recipe from scratch

Description
Lotion / Cream making workshop – (Private and hands-on)
This is a physical hands-on class that takes place at our studio in Cape Town, Montague Gardens.
Date: 9 | 16 April 2025
Time: 10am – 12/1pm, depending on class size – max 2 people.
Venue: Olive Handmade Soaps – Unit A3 Spearhead Business Park, Montague Gardens, Montague Drive.
Skill level: No prior experience is needed to join our class. We will teach you everything beginner to intermediate level
Class size: We host a maximum of 2 people per allocated day to allow for maximum attention.
What will be provided: All lotion-making equipment and ingredients will be provided.. You will be able to buy lotion-making ingredients at the end of the workshop for you to take home.
Refreshments: We will offer tea/coffee throughout the course – please feel free to bring your own substantial lunch.
You will take home:
– Class notes booklet, essential oil blending booklet and a recipe booklet.
– Any lotion you would have made.
What to wear?
We will provide aprons and safety gear for the day.
In the workshop we will cover the following:
– What is soap
– Different types of soaps
– Methods of soapmaking
– Equipment and supplies needed
– Soap making oils and their properties
*PLEASE NOTE:
- Once payment has been made you will receive an email from us confirming your booking. Attendees do not receive a physical ticket.
- Bookings are not refundable. If you are unable to attend you are welcome to gift the ticket to a friend. We reserve the right to cancel the workshop at any time in which case we will issue refunds.
- We do not host workshops for children under 17 years of age
- Our workshops run from March to July.
You will soon be making your own natural lotion at home, or even starting a small business with your new skill. Do not hesitate to contact us should you need more information.
Off-course you will take home the lotion/cream you would have made.
